Hi. I'm Gypsy - and I am a Kindle-aholic.
Yes. I am addicted to my Kindle.
Now - mind you - I read a lot as a child because we weren't allowed to watch TV. In fact...I was in High School before I realized that the TV was not a piece of furniture with no other purpose than to hold a nicely arranged vase ( to be pronounced V-ah-Z) of flowers. Preferably peonies from the back yard. Pink.
But I digress.
I have read a lot over the years - but now - it's an obsession. SO - with that thought in mind...I have decided to do a book review whenever I finish a new one.
Yesterday I read ROOM by Emma Donoghue.
Yes, I read it in one day. I found it to be quite disturbing. It's written through the eyes of a 5 year old boy - whose mother was kidnapped and held hostage in an 11 X 11 shed ( ROOM) for over 7 years. During that 7 years the kidnapper impregnates the woman and she has this little boy. His entire world from birth to the time of the story is this 11 X 11 room and his Mother. If writing that is done with thick accents, or certain cadences as people speak is distracting for you - then this book is not for you. The boy (Jack) has a strange cadence and way of expressing himself and I found it distracting no matter how much of the book I read.
I loved it. But - I would almost like to see a companion piece told from the point of view of the Mother ( whose name we never learn).
It is a quick read - very intense - and I had dreams about it last night. If you are like me - and love to see how other folks live - this is the book for you. I was going to provide you a link to Amazon.com - but really - I'm pretty sure you don't need a link to Amazon.com
Happy reading.
Today I am thankful for the wonderful imaginations of all the story tellers out there. They keep my Kindle full and busy!
