Deck the Halls....and all that rot....

Thanksgiving was lovely.

Three of my kids and their respective better halves, my friend from work and my sweet yummy fantastic grand baby were all at my house. We had turkey and all the fixin's - sans alcohol...and not a drop of drama occurred. Now - I can't say whether it was because my Mom wasn't there, hubby's Dad wasn't there, Daughter-in-law's Mother wasn't there ( she canceled at the last minute), alcohol wasn't there, or the fact that a sweet little baby has a habit of making everyone calm and relaxed - but it was a nice calm day none-the less. But of course - I was exhausted and sore ( I have a bad back) - so Friday was a bit difficult - but Hubby and I got a lot done.

Together we put up the tree, put out the Dickens village, decorated the living room, piano and the mantle - and didn't have  a single episode of crankiness or ya-ya-ing. Then - on Saturday my youngest came over and hung my lights outside and put my yard ornaments out.  It was so nice of him to do that. He did it because I was so bummed out that if someone didn't come do it - it wouldn't get done. ( My husband is somewhat of a Scrooge - I was lucky to get the house done - outside was out of the question). He said he just wanted to make his Mom happy. And he succeeded.

Whilst the hall decking was going on- a big box of piano music ( that I KNEW was missing but no one believed me) turned up amongst the Christmas decorations from up in the attic. I was so ecstatic. It was Christmas had come already. I had a great time playing the piano for a few hours on Saturday- even though my back was killing me and really I shouldn't have. It's a small price to pay - for a couple hours of piano playing.

On a not so great note - my husbands father has invited himself for Christmas. He is a pompous, loud, hard of hearing but not admitting it, blow hard and I am NOT even remotely looking forward to it. I wish I could tell him he can't come - but I would never do that - besides he has a great grandson to meet. I get it. But I don't have to like it.

So - the Christmas season has officially started at my house. I am not exactly a Christmas Person  - but for my grand baby - I'm trying.

Fa la la lala - lala la la!
